May 6, 2023Dark roots to 6 inches; First grown in Denmark in the 1840’s. Very popular by 1880. The plant produces good yields of high quality 8″ long by 2″ wide beets. They are very sweet and have dark red flesh. Excellent for canning because of their shape . Very productive. The tops are edible and may be prepared like your favourite greens. More beet for the space. Sow as soon as the soil can be worked 2 cm-6cm (1-3”) apart and 1 cm (1/2”) deep. Water well. To store, keep beets in cool damp sand or sawdust. Heirloom. 2g/approximately 175 seeds.
