Soapnuts are a great alternative to chemical laundry detergent.
Soapnuts are dried husks from the soapberry.
These berries are the fruit from a species of sapindus trees, which is native to warm tropical regions.
The husks contain a substance called saponin which produces a soaping effect.
How to use: Place 4-6 soapnuts in a small cloth bag, then tie shut ( a nut milk bag will work,or a sock)
– Put it in with your laundry and wash as normal, as per manufacturer instructions. – After washing, remove the bag and set aside to dry or do another load. – Re-use 6-10 times or until they start to disintegrate and then throw them in your garden compost. -Soapnuts can be used in both standard and high-efficiency machines (HE). –
